Vivek Patkar

Vivek is currently holding a post of Senior Clinical Research Fellow at Academic Oncology in Royal Free Hospital and UCL. Vivek is a trained surgical oncologist with specialist interest in breast oncoplastic surgery. He graduated from Grant Medical College, Bombay University in 1995. He undertook his general surgical training followed by specialist training in surgical oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital, Bombay between 1996 to 2000. He was awarded the Master of Surgery (MS) degree by Bombay University in 1999. Vivek subsequently focused on breast surgery as a sub specialty at Tata Memorial Hospital till 2003.

In 2003 he spent a year as specialist registrar and then clinical fellow at Breast Unit in Guy's Hospital. Vivek worked at Cancer Research UK from 2004-2007 as a Senior Research Fellow and was involved in advanced computational and cancer informatics research. While working as a researcher he gained his MRCS in Surgery from Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

Since 2007 Vivek is working at Royal Free Hospital and is also leading a research project looking into improving breast MDT conduct with advanced computational technology.

Research interests
Vivek's current research focuses on cancer informatics bringing the clinical evidence into the process of decision-making using logical frameworks, to improve the standard of care. Vivek's long standing research interests are studying the biological processes underling tumour growth, progression and metastasis. At Tata Memorial Hospital he worked with Prof. I Mittra to study cell apoptosis and cell transformation.
